Deer Creek Gardens

The guests of the Deer Creek Inn have a special treat in store.  This creekside setting is honored to have the award winning gardens at Deer Creek Inn.   Although the Inn is located within footsteps of Historic Downtown Nevada City, it is fortunate enough to be one of the most beautiful settings of the area.

The Victorian Deer Creek Inn sits high above its gardens and creek, affording wonderful views from its verandahs, balconies and patios.  From the moment you start down the garden staircase from the main level of the house you are engulfed with an abundance of flora and fauna.  Greenery surrounds you in the form of large 150 year old sugar maples, cedars, dogwoods and a one hundred foot cherry tree purported to be the largest in the county.  In spring as the blossoms fall you are showered with falling flowers and their magnificent bouquet.

In another section of the garden there is a raised stone patio with an old fountain that becomes a perfect place for an afternoon picnic or and evening glass of wine.   However, the best place for wine is at the creekside.  Sitting in a comfortable chair or scenic park bench, your concerns of daily life will drift away with the current of the stream.   It’s amazing how you can hear the music…., even if there isn’t any.  If you are lucky, you will see some of the trout that make this creek their home.  An occasional fly fisherman will entertain you with his string ballet and you will be mesmerized in the fluidity of the dance.  But, not to worry, the fisherman are told that this is a “catch and release” creek.

To the right in the gardens, you will stroll under an arbor that is the entrance to our rose gardens.  There you will find another VERY romantic sitting area with a park bench surrounded in stone and under the watchful eye of Rachel, a beautiful statue named after a very special young lady.  Sit for a moment and enjoy the sounds of Deer Creek, and then continue on a stone path to the rose gardens.
